Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about horse transport with 2 Mittens Farm — based in Raleigh, NC, expanding to Ocala, FL.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Raleigh, North Carolina and provide horse transportation throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic — including North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and surrounding areas — on an appointment basis. We are expanding to Ocala, Florida later this year.
How do I get a quote?
We need the number of horses (up to 2 per trip), the size of each horse, and the distance. Pricing is customized per horse based on mileage. Call (248) 343-1351 or (248) 756-3795, or email 2mittensfarm@gmail.com.
How many horses can you transport at once?
We transport up to 2 horses per trip in our 2011 2-horse slant load bumper pull trailer.
What types of horses do you transport?
We can accommodate mares with foals and nervous or difficult horses. Stallions, pregnant mares, and horses with medical conditions are evaluated case by case.
Do you provide updates during transport?
Yes. You can reach us at (248) 343-1351 or (248) 756-3795 during the trip.
Can you accommodate emergency transport?
Yes, with an additional emergency fee. We work by appointment and stay flexible when urgency matters.
What features does your trailer have?
Padded stalls with rubber matting, multiple fans and excellent ventilation, rear and side ramp for safe loading and unloading, and drop down feed windows. We maintain the trailer before and after every use. We do not currently offer GPS tracking or interior cameras.
Are you expanding to Ocala, Florida?
Yes. 2 Mittens Farm is based in Raleigh, NC today and is expanding to Ocala, FL later this year. Reach out early if you need Florida horse transport planned around that move.
Do you haul mixed loads with other people’s horses?
We haul up to two horses per trip for your booking. We do not run crowded multi-owner commercial van schedules. If you have two horses that know each other — or two that do not — tell us so we can plan loading and stalls.
Who drives and handles the horses?
Fern May and Luke Brendel. Fern has been around horses most of her life (riding, training, packing, showing). Luke has worked with horses for close to four years. They work with horses every day and run the loads themselves.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you can — especially for longer Southeast corridors and seasonal Florida moves. We work by appointment and will be honest if a date does not fit our one-trailer schedule.
Do you transport only in North Carolina?
No. Raleigh, NC is our base, but we provide appointment-based horse transportation across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, including Florida routes when scheduling allows. See our Raleigh, Triangle, Ocala, and corridor pages for route details.
What should I prepare before pickup?
Have health papers ready when interstate travel requires them (commonly a current negative Coggins and a health certificate / CVI — confirm with your vet), emergency contacts, and any handling notes. Our prep checklist walks through the full list.
